Today was my first day at Olive Chapel Elementary! I finally got to meet my K Co-op (Mrs. Davis) and 2nd (Mrs. Iverson). They are both soo nice, i cant even explain how much of a relief it is to have awesome co-ops! It can honestly make or break your student teaching experience. Today when i arrived i had 24 little heart shaped sticky notes on my desk saying "i love you" and "welcome to our class". The kiddies were so welcoming and adorable!
Today i basically observed and got a feel for the classroom. The kiddies are a little rowdie but hey what group of 24 6 year olds aren't? i am excited to get to know them and im trying to learn their names quickly.. so well see!
Each K room has a TA (teachers assistant). They are so much help and i could only DREAM of having one in my classroom one day. (she takes them to and from specials/lunch/recess/grades papers/cuts/laminates/copies). Where i went to school we never had a TA.
Tonight i am sooo tired! But i cant wait for another exciting day in Kindergarten!!

Kindergarten is such a wonderful age! I loved student teaching and learned so much! Have fun!
ReplyDeleteawesome!
ReplyDeletesome tips for learning names...
try to use their names as much as possible in everything you do. "sarah, can you please pass these out?", "ben, you're doing a great job!", "laura will be the line leader today.", etc.
i also play a name game in the 1st week of school. i say that it's like a "quiz" for the teacher. i have to memorize all their names. students think it's fun sitting there and watching me try to recall them all. lol.
i also think that name tags on desks are a wonderful tool!
i usually learn all names within that first week. this year i have 7 classes of students though. if i hadn't taught most of my 4th graders when they were in grade 2 i may have never memorized them all...lol.
keep the posts coming...loving it!
How cute is that?! I used to student teach and it was so much fun to learn the different personalities of the kids and bond with them.
